Preregistered Literature Review

Sleep duration and sufficiency in relation to factors of residential environment in adults: a systematic review [Preregistration]

While preparing for data collection in the NaPS study, we are already busy with our first scientific endeavour—a systematic review on environmental factors and sleep in adults based on observational studies. In essence, a systematic review is the most rigorous method of literature review that thoroughly identifies, selects, evaluates, and summarises all (!) relevant scientific studies on a given topic.

Every systematic review undergoes several consecutive stages. We have already defined the scope, built thorough search strategies for three most relevant databases, and saved the results. The review is currently in the process of initial literature screening of 8328 unique titles and abstracts. In total, six persons are involved, and we expect the review to take approximately one year before submission.

To ensure complete transparency and best practices, every systematic review undergoes a so-called preregistration, i.e., it states the aims and all the details of methodology before the actual start of the work. Our systematic review was preregistered, and anyone interested can find the full and gory details under: https://osf.io/cmvta.
